Goa’s Anura settles for Silver at All India Badminton at Vijayawada (June 11 – 16, 2019)
The dream run of Anura Prabhu Desai, seeded 7, came to an end at the Yonex Sunrise All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The Goan shuttler who is brand ambassador of Geno Pharmaceuticals went down to number 3 seed Aakarshi Kashyap 12 - 21, 16 - 21 to settle for Silver in Women’s singles. “I thank my employers Central Railways, my sponsors Geno Pharmaceuticals and appreciate the support given to me by the Sports Authority of Goa and Goa Badminton Association. I will now be participating in Mongolia International Challenge followed by US Open Grand Prix and US International series”, said Anura in her brief message following her Silver medal feat.
Goa's top junior badminton player Tanisha Crasto has been selected to represent India for the Asian Junior Badminton Championships to be held in Suzhou, China from July 20-28.
The Badminton Association of India has considered the cumulative ranking points from the two All India Junior Ranking tournaments held in Chennai and Trivandrum, in the month of May while selecting the squad.
Tanisha along with her partner Aditi Bhatt from Uttarakhand, who are the current Junior Girls doubles National champions will lead India's challenge in Girls doubles.
The Indian team will be undergoing a camp for 15 days starting July 3 in Panchkula, Haryana.
