Yonex Sunrise All India Masters (Veteran) Badminton Ranking in Goa from August 24
Goa are hosts to the Yonex Sunrise All India Masters (Veteran) Badminton Ranking championships 2019. The championship is being organised by Goa Badminton Association (GBA) under the aegis of Badminton Association of India (BAI) and will be held at multipurpose stadium, Peddem, Mapusa from August 24 to 30. From August 24th to 27th, top players from the categories of 35+, 40+, 45+ and 50+ will compete for the championship titles while the categories of 55+, 60+, 65+, 70+ and 75+ will be held from August 27 to 30.
The championship is being conducted by qualified BAI officials, 30 in number, who have been nominated from various parts of the country. In addition, there are 20 State and District level officials from Goa who are part of the officiating team. Several former National and International players such as Rutupurna Kulkarni, Shrikant Bakshi, Ravindra Singh, Leroy D’ Sa, and Joy Anthony will be seen in action. Goa’s challenge will be spearheaded by Sandhya Melasheemi who won triple Gold medals at the previous All India Masters Ranking in Ooty, along with the Kanji brothers Sandip and Kamlesh who won bronze in the same championship.
Dr Satish Kudchadkar, K Vamanan, Pankaj Naik, Avita Bandodkar, Marina Albuquerque, Parag Chauhan, Darwin Barreto, Vishal Vernekar and Amit Kakkar who reached quarter finals in the Masters Nationals held in Goa earlier this year are other top names from the Goa team, who will be expected to put up a good show. In this championship, there are 978 entries with 808 participating players in all. The Chief Referee for the Championship is Milind Deshmukh from Maharashtra while Vinod Kurangia from Gujarat is the Deputy Referee. Tamil Nadu’s State Secretary V. Arunachallam has been nominated by the BAI as observer for the championships. The championship has been budgeted at Rs 20 lakhs.
